You know, not to be emo or nothing, but... why does life have to be so complicated sometimes? Why can't we just indulge in what we like, enjoy what makes us happy, spend time with the people we love and to hell with the rest?
Why isn't there a button to shun all negativity away from us? There honestly should be. Life is too short to be taken seriously. Every year they find another plant, another chemical, another routine to fortify our bodies to make us live longer.
Every day you hear on TV, you read in magazines and newspapers, you hear from your teachers and peers everything you have to do (or not do) in order to live 'right'.
Drink eight glasses of water a day, exercise 3 - 4 times a week, no carbs after 7pm, don't stand in front of the microwave, no smoking, no red M&Ms, no alcohol, no sex before marriage, be home before midnight, don't tan or you'll get cancer...
How about, 'remember to smile'? Or, 'it doesn't matter how many Tim Tams you scoff down, I'll still love you'?
No. It's all about what's proper. What's expected.
Feelings don't come into the equation anymore. Happiness can only be achieved with a job, a significant other and a 22.5 BMI.
What if I'm happy watching FRIENDS re-runs with a bunch of adolescent misfits while eating unhealthy snacksfoods and talking about what it would be like to get wasted?
It's not wrong if it makes you happy. That's what I've decided.
